FRIENDS OF VICTORIA HOSPITAL WIMBORNE FUND UPGRADE OF ULTRASOUND ROOM

Debbie Jones, Lead Radiographer VHW wrote:-

“We are now pleased to welcome patients to our bright and modernised room.

We have bespoke lighting with new ceiling tiles and all unnecessary wall shelves removed. A floor to ceiling cupboard was custom made and now accommodates all the cleaning, linen and ancillary equipment for the sonographer and health care assistant, tucked away from the patient’s view.

The floor has been replaced with a new regulation grade non-slip easy to clean option suitable for a clinic area. The walls were given a fresh, white, coat of paint matching the rest of the refurbished radiology department and have easy to wipe waist height plastic coverings to avoid scuffs. A new integrated sink unit was also fitted which is the correct height now.

A new bespoke workspace bench was made and relocated to enable the sonographer and health care assistant to work side by side at their computers. This also means that all the computers with patient sensitive information on, are as far away from the patient sight/couch as possible now.

The walls have also been fitted with large Perspex covered, lockable notice boards. This means we no longer have to laminate our notices; this has a huge cost implication and saves the trust money in the long term.

The window was replaced with a far better draught proof solution ensuring this room no longer seeps heat out and a new air conditioning unit was also relocated to a better position. A new heat efficient radiator was also fitted.

The staff already say that the room feels light and airy and is now a very pleasant space in which to work.

The reconfiguration of the space and relocation of the sonographer couch and scanning machine means that we now can accommodate hospital beds, stretchers and wheelchairs with ease. This is something we could not do before and was our main purpose for the refurbishment to ensure resilience of use for this room and the service.

The staff working in the room feel the new lay-out makes the room far more time efficient and means a faster throughput for patients. This is excellent news as it has improved the efficiency of the lists running.

Patients have also commented favorably as the room feels bigger and welcoming and is warm and bright.

James, Stenographer said “Love the new room. It’s so nice to work in and runs very efficiently keeping appointments timely and patients are giving positive feedback. I really enjoy working here 😊”
